After visiting a Dick Bruna exhibition in Amsterdam, I was intrigued by his other work besides the Miffy series, that he had made for his family's book business. I liked the simplicity of the blocks of colours, and the use of black silhouettes against a bold background.
I wanted to experiment with using textured colours as a background for the covers, as I thought that it would stand out from the usual picture-only travel guides.
I also created a set of solid colour covers, to see how they compared to the textured ones. I found that these made the silhouettes stand out more, but the textured ones had more of an organic travel feeling, with a sense of movement.
